2020 – 2021 Year of the Nurse

The American Nurses Association, The International Council of Nurses, and the World Health Organization have declared 2020 – 2021 “The Year of the Nurse”. This designation is made to acknowledge the vital contributions nurses make to health care delivery, and to bring attention to the challenges faced by nursing. The COVID Pandemic has thrown a spotlight on the integral role nurses play in the healthcare system, and accentuated barriers that limit the ability of nurses to meet the healthcare needs of our communities. Nursing shortages, restrictions on nurses practicing to their full potential, and limited educational opportunities for those aspiring to be nurses continues to limit the contributions nurses can make to improved health. In response to these challenges these organizations have made this designation in the hopes to advance the profession of nurses and remove these barriers.
