Florida Nurses Association Takes Tallahassee

Nurses come to Tallahassee to push for advancing nursing

The FLorida Nurses Association held its Annual Advocacy Days where nurses are prepared to educate legislators on key issues related to nursing and healthcare. The annual event includes lectures on how to visit legislators, on key issues affecting healthcare and proposed legislation that impacts healthcare.

Attendees are then escorted to meet with legislators and advocate for issues and legislation that may effect healthcare. This year key issues of concern included advanced practice nurses scope of practice, workplace safety, wage issues for state employees who are nurses and surgical smoke issues.

This year nurses made over 60 visits to legislative offices and had meaningful discussions with key policy makers. In addition to office visits the nurses where very visible in the capital often interacting with legislators and legislative staff.
