Florida Nurses Association Announces 2022 Advocacy Days

The Florida Nurses Association has announced its annual Advocacy Event for 2021. Advocacy Days is FNA’s annual event that empowers nurses to have a voice on legislative issues that affect their profession and the well-being of the patients they serve. Each Advocacy Days, nurses from across the state gather in Tallahassee during legislative session to learn about current legislative issues and specific bills that may affect their practice or the overall healthcare environment in Florida. They then have the opportunity to meet with their legislators one-on-one to discuss these issues and advocate for nursing. Advocacy Days is a great opportunity for both upcoming and seasoned nurses to get involved in advocacy work, regardless of whether they have prior experience in this realm or not.

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

• Educational sessions equip you with knowledge about the legislative process and how legislation impacts the nursing profession and healthcare as a whole.
• Role-playing exercises and group activities empower you to be more involved in the legislative process by engaging you with like-minded peers and teaching you how to effectively communicating about nursing issues.
• Legislative appointments allow you to become an advocate for your profession by speaking directly with your local legislator regarding important issues.
• Advocacy Days 101 webinar before the conference preps you for your visit to the state capital by giving you an idea of what to expect, including a conference overview and logistics, tips on navigating your legislative appointments, and an overview of what’s expected of you as a representative of FNA.

What makes the most difference in getting our needs heard? It is the voices and votes of NURSES. Legislators want to hear from constituents. As members of the most trusted profession, nurses have a unique opportunity to be advocates for their patients and their profession.
